Palo Alto, CA – September 25, 2008 – Metacafe® solidified its position as the world’s leading independent online video site with 37.1 million unique monthly viewers worldwide and 7.4 million unique monthly viewers in the U.S. during the month of August, as reported in the recently released comScore Media Metrix data.  Worldwide, traffic to Metacafe in August grew 37.7% year-over-year, including an 8.7% increase over the previous month.  This makes Metacafe the third-largest video site in the world overall.

“The numbers underscore that we’re doing something right in a meaningful way,” said Jack Rotherham, senior vice president of strategic sales and partnerships for Metacafe.  “By delivering only the best in short-form video entertainment, we make it easy for people to find videos they enjoy and we provide a brand-safe environment for marketers.

Over the past several months Metacafe has teamed with a number of top creators and aggregators of made-for-the-web content – including companies such as 60 Frames, Aniboom, Comedy.com, Comedy Time, GamePro Media, Howcast and YoungHollywood.com – to help develop short-form video as a new entertainment genre and lucrative media business.  By packaging and promoting this content, which appeals to a variety of demographic segments, Metacafe is creating sponsorship opportunities for advertisers who want to integrate their brands into the entertainment experience and add social media to their marketing mix.

“Short-form is poised to take its place as the third pillar of the video entertainment industry, alongside television and movies,” said Erick Hachenburg, CEO of Metacafe.  “We’re focused on making it easy to find and enjoyable to watch great short videos, and that focus has made Metacafe the leading independent online video site in the U.S. and around the world.”

Leading Short-Form Video Entertainment Site Recruits Former AOL Exec

Palo Alto, CA – September 17, 2008 – Metacafe®, the world’s leading short-form video entertainment site, today announced that Jack Rotherham has joined the company as senior vice president, strategic sales and partnerships.  In his new role, Rotherham will lead Metacafe’s work with Fortune 1000 companies interested in tightly integrating their brands into the online entertainment experience and employing social media as a marketing vehicle.

“With nearly 80% of U.S. Internet users now watching online video, this industry has evolved from a pop culture phenomenon to a global media business,” said Erick Hachenburg, CEO of Metacafe.  “At Metacafe, we’re solely focused on short-form content and are working with our advertisers and content partners to help develop this emerging genre into the third pillar of the video entertainment industry, alongside television and movies.  Jack brings the know-how, experience and contacts to help us do just this.”

Rotherham joins Metacafe from AOL’s Platform A, where he oversaw strategic planning and monetization initiatives for Video, Social Media and High-Reach properties including AOL Video, Advertising.com Video Network, AIM, ICQ, Bebo, AOL eMail and AOL News.  Before making the leap to digital media, Rotherham spent nearly 20 years in the magazine publishing industry.  He was founding partner and publisher of C, a regional luxury lifestyle magazine and web site.   At Time Inc. he served as publisher of Teen People and its online, broadcast and mobile extensions.  Previously, he spent 14 years at Wenner Media Inc., where his roles included serving as vice president and publisher of Rolling Stone, where he oversaw two record-breaking years in ad revenue.   Rotherham holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Fordham University.

“There’s no doubt the Internet will be the dominant distribution platform for all media and the primary means for brands to reach their target consumers,” said Rotherham.  “Progressive marketers are already putting social media to work for their brands, and I look forward to helping them take advantage of the interactive world of short-form video entertainment – where the audience is more engaged and campaigns are more measurable.”

First Look Now Available Exclusively on Metacafe – “Easy To Assemble” Training Videos, Teasers to Upcoming Short-Form Series

Palo Alto, CA – September 4, 2008 –
Now live on Metacafe®, the world’s leading short-form video entertainment site, is the first of 10 spoof training videos featuring celebrities learning the tricks of the trade at an IKEA store in Burbank, California.  Available exclusively on Metacafe for one week, these training videos are teasers to the upcoming scripted web series “Easy To Assemble,” which will launch later this month.

“Easy To Assemble” is created by and stars Illeana Douglas with Jeff Goldblum, Tom Arnold, Craig Bierko, Kevin Pollack, Greg Proops, Robert Patrick, Justine Bateman and Ed Begley Jr.  SXM, a Metacafe content partner, is the production and distribution company behind the show, which is co-produced by IKEA.

“These spoof training videos really capture the flavor of the main episodes of ‘Easy To Assemble,’ which will be launched later this month,” said Thomas Bannister, CEO of SXM.  “On the Internet you can create storylines and characters in a non-traditional, non-linear way. It’s less like creating a product for a slot on the shelf and more like creating a universe to diffuse through cyberspace. Metacafe’s large audience and exclusive focus on short-form video entertainment makes it a great place to launch this type of entertainment.”

The training videos are each approximately three minutes long, and one to two per week will be prominently featured on Metacafe from now through late October.  Viewers can watch the celebrities-turned-retail employees learn about everything from the beauty of the allen wrench to dishing up Swedish meatballs at www.metacafe.com/channels/SXMinc/ and find more information about “Easy To Assemble” at www.easytoassemble.tv.

“As short-form video develops as an entertainment genre, it’s important that we help introduce our 34 million viewers to great new shows they can’t find elsewhere,” said Scott Bushman, vice president of content for Metacafe.  “We’re pleased to team with production companies such as SXM to deliver on this promise and advance the future of the online video business.”
